The Miami Heat and 6-3-1

First of all I’d like to christen all new Miami Heat fans as Lebrons. Those who jumped ship to this team in the East after Lebron James the former King of Cleveland and now public enemy number 1 in Ohio took his talents to South Beach. With James’ defection to the Heat, his surname quickly became a noun or verb to be substituted to traitor or selfish bastard. Much like Ron’s infamy in the Palace brawl a few years back, Artest became synonymous to rage or charging a fan in the stands.

Second, I’d like to express my disgust to these so called “fans”, because to me a fan base is made through winning and not the EXPECTATION of winning. You guys are all talk, we’ll see how your team does in this coming season.

Ok now to the real content.

Eyebrows have been raised and tears have been shed in this Miami Supercrew. From the press conferences I’ve watched James mouthing off that they won’t settle for even seven rings, Wade preaching sacrifice and teamwork and Bosh sitting quietly with no one finding him interesting.

Now that I’m writing this the Miami Heat doesn’t have a full roster. Yes there is no better team on paper right now than the Heat with three Gold medalists, all stars etc. but there are still a lot of question marks and empty spaces in that supposed to be 15 man roster. Zydrunas Ilgauskas does not solve your big man problem with the fact that Chris Bosh is a liability on defense. Fill up your roster first then we’ll talk about predictions.

Next concern is team chemistry. While team chemistry takes years to build, sacrifice and teamwork can only go so far. News reports claim that the trio took less money so that the organization can fill the team up with players. Even when its all said and done that roster will be reduced to spectators to the Lebron effect and also the Wade effect. James and Wade made names for themselves as players who carry their teams on their backs not because they can, but because their teammates fail to pull their own weight. That’s why post-Shaq, the Heat have never returned to the Conference Finals and that’s why the Cavaliers have been swept out of the only Finals appearance they had as a franchise. When they see their superstars having great games they just sit back and watch. Now you say it isn’t a problem since there’s three of them now, that’s a bag full of crap because night in and night out you can’t perform your best. Even if the trio average 30 points a game that’s only 90 points and don’t even get me started on defense.

Bosh is a perennial all-star during his stint in Toronto, but as he said in one of the press conferences he averaged a career best in points and rebounds last season and nothing happened. Why? because you don’t play defense Chris. You’re a big man in the KG mold without the D. I don’t see any NBA defensive teams in your resume Bosh.

Question, If the Heat win the Finals, who would be Finals MVP?

It would be a toss up between James and Wade. James is an established stat sheet stuffer. Gets a lot of triple doubles but gets less wins. He nabbed two straight season MVP’s in Cleveland with his style of play. Only a Finals MVP is missing from his trophy case. Dwayne Wade is the established man in Miami. Its his house. He was the man when they won in 2006. He took the Finals MVP with him. His friendship with James will be put to the test when they both vie for Finals MVP.

I’m hearing a lot of this “teamwork” trend that is supposed to be the new way of life in the NBA. Stars joining up taking less money for a sure title. Boston pulled it off because KG, Allen and Pierce are at the twilight of their careers and they are welcome to share the load.

You can’t avoid the fact that Bosh and James are underachievers. That’s why they packed their bags and went to South Beach under the guise of “teamwork”. Fact is they just got tired of being the “man” for the past 7 years and decided to feed off one another. Charles Barkley put it simply, “if I was 25, I’d rather be the man and try to beat everyone else”. We all know Sir Charles retired without a ring with that mentality and because he lived in the Jordan Era. Point is, it hurts the legacy. Bosh has a great owner in Toronto in Bryan Colangelo who tweaked that team multiple times during Bosh’s stay to win. Unfortunately they ran into Dwight Howard in the playoffs. We expected LeBron to be king, with all those endorsements and multi-million dollar deals. But with his decision he will now be forever be part of 631 and be known as LeBron the piggyback rider.

Superstar teams aren’t a sure fire way to win a title. Sometimes it works sometimes it fails miserably. Just take Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and Jerry West all wiped around the Boston parquet for 11 years by Bill Russell.

If you want to know about true teamwork, type Oklahoma City Thunder in Google or 2004 Detroit Pistons.

With all this hoopla with the Heat this July, I have given my share. Best of luck to all!
